St Helens Youth Justice Service is a small team of multi-agency professionals. We share a passion for helping and supporting children and their families and victims of youth crime, to improve their lives and make communities safer. To do this, we work hard to prevent and reduce youth crime by pro-active engagement, providing creative and effective interventions and programmes which are restorative, trauma informed and which take a whole family approach

In this varied and exciting post you will play an important role which is integral to the team and will…

· be responsible for the recruitment and ongoing support and development of all YJS volunteers who will act in either a mentor or panel member capacity
· be a mentor for a small number of children
· undertaking face to face assessments with prospective mentees, source suitable volunteer mentors/panel members
· coordinate Referral Order panels and oversee and support the matching process
· attending regular stakeholder meetings with statutory partners and supporting the volunteer recruitment and training process
· ensure that the child’s experience is heard and informs future practice
· produce accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous records and reports

To be successful in this new post, you will…..

· have completed training in restorative approaches or be willing to work towards this
· have a proven track record of providing information, advice and guidance.
· demonstrate an understanding of child development, trauma informed practice and the barriers faced by children who have offended in the community
· possess good planning and organisational skills.
· be prepared to work flexible hours, in line with the requirements of the role which may involve some evening and/or occasional weekend work.
· have experience in working with children involved in the Criminal Justice System and hold a relevant qualification in one of the following:
- Social work.
- Youth Justice
- Probation
- A minimum Level 4 qualification in one of the following:
- Information Advice Guidance
- Youth and Community Work
- Criminology
- Psychology
- Counselling
