Title:
Markets Fees and Charges 2019/20
Summary of Decision:
To approve attached fees and charges schedule
Proposed Decision:
The current fees and charges for the current financial year to remain at current rates subject to further review for April 2020
Summary of Reason for Decision:
The current level of fees and charges are considered to be reflective of the market for this current financial year.
Reason for Decision:
The current level of fees and charges are considered to be reflective of the market for this current financial year. This is because of the following factors : - occupancy is variable in a very challenging retail sector - retail spending in general continues to be under severe pressure and many market traders are accordingly feeling the financial pressure ;fee increases will only add to this and risk losing traders which would be detrimental to the market and risk its future. -Fees and charges are not low compared to other local markets and need to remain competitive. - In line with the Council's Town Centre regeneration plans the market is currently being reviewed for a potential relocation and hence will be subject to further change including fees and charges.
Risks Associated with this Decision:
If fees and charges are raised at this current time there is a risk of losing further levels of occupancy that could be detrimental to the future of the markets.
Measures to Redress Risk:
Keeping the rents at the same levels will sustain trader retention
Anti Poverty / Human Rights / Agenda 21 Implications:
None
